Closing the Literacy Gap" by Teaching English to Adult Learners

Project Light Language School Receives $30,000 Grant from Bishop-Parker Foundation

Project Light Language School received a $30,000 grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation during its 30th anniversary year. The funding supports new instructors, training, and classroom resources, helping over 400 adult learners build English, literacy, and employment skills.

Project Light Language School is excited to announce that we have received a generous $30,000 grant from the Bishop-Parker Foundation. This funding arrives just in time for our Thanksgiving celebration and marks a significant milestone for our institution – our 30th anniversary. It reflects
the Bishop-Parker Foundation’s dedication to supporting nonprofit and public partners who work collaboratively to enhance the Manatee County Community for both current and future generations.

This grant will greatly amplify Project Light’s impact, empowering adult learners through enhanced English proficiency, literacy, citizenship, and employment skills development. Additionally, the TechPath (Pathways to Support Adult Learners) grant will provide a crucial boost to our school by allowing us to hire more ESOL instructors and facilitating essential training for our teachers and staff. The funds will also help cover costs for instructional materials and school supplies.

We are proud to report that our student enrollment has steadily increased over the past four years, growing from 120 students to over 400. This growth highlights the rising demand for our services and is a testament to the incredible support we’ve received from our community.
Providing English language instruction through trained ESL educators is essential for delivering quality education. We recognize that assessment plays a crucial role in successfully learning English and effectively applying language skills in the workplace, at home, and within the broader community.

On behalf of the Project Light Board of Directors, our dedicated teachers, students, and staff, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Board of Trustees at the Bishop-Parker Foundation. Your faith in our mission and the work we do for the community is invaluable. Thanks to your generosity, we can continue making significant strides in advancing adult learners through English proficiency, literacy, citizenship, and employment skills development. The Bishop-Parker Foundation’s decades-long philanthropic legacy in our community complements the 30 years of educational legacy that Project Light of Manatee, Inc. has been building. Together, we are creating pathways for a brighter future for everyone.
