"Closing the Literacy Gap" by Teaching English to Adult Learners

In recognition of National Nutrition Month, first established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, we share practical advice on healthy eating from one of our students, a trained dietitian from Brazil. While improving her English at Project Light Language School, she offered simple guidance to classmates on choosing natural foods, drinking more water, and building balanced habits for better health.
In honor of National Reading Month, we reflect on the lasting value of reading. At Project Light Language School, students read dozens of short books during their course, helping them expand vocabulary, strengthen their English skills, and build a lifelong habit of reading.
This edition features a moving tribute to Haitian leader Dessalines Jean-Jacques, alongside inspiring alumni and student stories that reflect courage, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of learning English at Project Light Language School.
