Robert (Bob) W. Downie, MD, grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and attended Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He spent two years as a Peace Corps physician in Bolivia, where he learned Spanish and deepened his medical experience.
As a Rehabilitation Medicine physician, Bob focused on understanding his patients’ illnesses and enhancing their daily functionality. After relocating to Florida, he continued this commitment at Turning Points in Bradenton.
Involvement with Rotary International has been a significant part of his life. He served three terms as president of his Rotary Club in Cherry Hill, NJ, and participated in international medical projects, traveling to Central and South America to oversee grant initiatives.
Bob is actively involved in advocating for the immigrant community in Manasota, working with the Hispanic Caucus and the Unitarian Congregation. He is passionate about making a positive impact and believes his experiences have equipped him to contribute to Project Light, which helps immigrants improve their English and computer skills. He looks forward to supporting its mission as a board member.
